PRIOR REQUIREMENTS/HOURS OF STUDY
- The Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science homeschooling course assumes that our young learners will have studied Computing from the English National Curriculum (Years 7 – 9) or an equivalent national educational framework. However, we always welcome enquiries from mature students who may have alternative experiences.
- Your child should allow around 150 hours’ study time to complete the course plus additional time for completing assignments. 150 hours is an approximate figure which depends on their learning abilities and the pace at which they work.
- We offer Study Skills Sessions for those students who need some extra help managing their studies.
THE SYLLABUS AND THE EXAM
he course will prepare your child for (CAIE) Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science, syllabus 0478 or 0984.
• Before sitting the exam, your child will need to complete what is known as ‘pre-release material’ – specific programming exercises. The exam board sends this material about 5 months before the exam (January for June exams; July for November exams). The exam centre at which your child is registered should send this material to you. It must be completed before the exam, as the exam paper will refer to it.
• The exam comprises two papers:
Paper 1: Theory: 1 hour and 45 minutes. 60% of the total grade Paper 2: Problem Solving and Programming: 1 hour and 45 minutes. 40% of the total grade.
